What this unit teaches

The passive — for understanding only

Every ward runs on passives: the patient is admitted, taken, operated on, discharged. You need to hear them, not produce them. worden plus the participle at the end — recognise the shape and say your own sentences in the active.

Numbers out loud

Dutch says the units before the tens: 76 is six-and-seventy. In a handover you hear the six first and write 67. Train this by ear only — never from the page — until the whole number arrives as one block.

Who prescribes, who takes, who gives

Three different verbs for one pill, and they are not interchangeable: the doctor schrijft voor, the patient neemt in, the nurse dient toe. Using nemen for medication is understood but instantly marks the sentence as non-clinical.

Ik dien het infuus toe.
