What this unit teaches

The skeleton of a handover

Five slots in a fixed order: who, background, why admitted, what changed, what is planned. Nothing new to learn here — the order is the skill. Say the same five things about every patient and you sound like a colleague, not like a foreigner reading notes.

The signposts that hold a monologue together

Three minutes of speech needs signposts, or the listener loses the thread and asks everything again. These four phrases are fixed blocks: learn them whole and drop them in without thinking, so your attention stays on the content.

No new grammar in this unit: the handover is where units 9 to 14 have to arrive at speaking speed at the same time. If a sentence collapses, split it in two — two correct short sentences beat one long broken one, and the ward hears the difference.
